Né en 1991 à Strasbourg, Thomas Kientz est un organiste et improvisateur français, concertiste international. Il est lauréat de plusieurs concours internationaux : le concours Olivier Messiaen (Lyon 2019), le 8ème concours d’orgue de Saint-Maurice (Suisse 2015), le « Grand Prix Florentz » de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts (Angers 2016), le concours André Marchal/Gaston Litaize (2017), le concours Schnitger d’Alkmaar (Pays-Bas, 2017).
Thomas Kientz est régulièrement l’invité de prestigieux festivals en France, Allemagne, Suisse, Italie, Belgique, Luxembourg, Espagne, Russie, Royaume-Unis ainsi qu’aux Etats-Unis où il était artist in residence à la cathédrale de la Nouvelle Orléans (Louisiane).
Thomas Kientz est professeur à la Haute Ecole de Musique (HEMU) de Lausanne/Fribourg et enseigne au Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelle Il est également organiste titulaire de l’Abbaye de Saint-Maurice (VS).
Au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, Thomas Kientz a étudié auprès d’Olivier Latry, Michel Bouvard, Thierry Escaich, Philippe Lefebvre, Yves Henry, Pierre Pincemaille, Laszlo Fassang, Isabelle Duha, Alain Mabit. Il est titulaire d’un Master d’interprétation à l’orgue, d’un Master d’improvisation, et des Prix d’harmonie, de contrepoint, d’écriture XXème/XXIème et de Fugue.
Sur le plan discographique, Thomas Kientz compte plusieurs enregistrements labellisés dont son intégrale des chorals pour orgue d’Homilius éditée chez Hortus. Elle est saluée par la critique, obtient 5 diapasons et 5 étoiles dans Classica. « cet attachant répertoire bénéficie enfin de sa version de référence », X.Bisaro, Diapason, n°667, p 91.
Passionné par la création sous toutes ses formes et par le timbre, Thomas Kientz se fait remarquer comme compositeur. Son oeuvre Dominus Illuminatio mea pour grand-orgue est lauréate du concours de composition de Saint-Sulpice à Paris. Il obtient également un 3ème prix du concours de la Société Suisse de musique contemporaine (ISCM) avec son oeuvre pour choeur O Virgo Splendens.

Thomas Kientz is a laureate of several international competitions: the Olivier Messiaen competition (Lyon 2019), the 8th organ competition of Saint-Maurice (Switzerland 2015), the « Grand Prix Florentz » of the Académie des Beaux-Arts (Angers 2016), the André Marchal/Gaston Litaize competition (2017), the Schnitger competition of Alkmaar (Netherlands, 2017).
Since then, he has had an international career as a concert artist and organ improviser. He is regularly invited to prestigious festivals in France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States where he was artist in residence at the Cathedral of New Orleans (Louisiana).
Thomas Kientz is a professor at the Haute Ecole de Musique (HEMU) in Lausanne/Fribourg and teaches at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.

He holds a Master’s degree in organ performance, a Master’s degree in improvisation, and Prizes in harmony, counterpoint, 20th/XXIst century writing and Fugue. In addition, he met in Brussels the Belgian composer Benoît Mernier and within the framework of the Higher Institute of Music in Namur (Belgium) obtained a Master’s degree specialized in organ interpretation.
On the recording front, Thomas Kientz has made several recordings, including his complete Homilius organ chorales published by Hortus. Passionate about creation in all its forms and about timbre, Thomas Kientz is also a composer.
